We are out most weekends, working on a wide variety of sites in Hampshire which are valuable for wildlife and public access to it.
In the spring and summer our tasks often involve the construction or maintenance of paths, boardwalks and fences, while autumn is traditionally the time for maintenance of ponds and water meadows. Autumn and winter months see the management of woodlands, heathland and downland by coppicing, hedgelaying and scrub-bashing, usually with a roaring bonfire.
The majority of our work is for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, Butterfly Conservation, Hampshire County Council, local councils and various charities. We work for a few private owners who are dedicated to looking after sites for their nature conservation value.
New volunteers are always welcome and no previous experience
is required. Before work starts, training is given in the safe
use of tools and any potential hazards are explained. Experienced
volunteers will explain and demonstrate work techniques.

The Duke's innovative awards continue to be very helpful, getting young people to join in with our activities. We regularly have DofE participants on tasks, so there is no problem joining in. You will need to be with a responsible adult until you are 16. Please keep an eye on our programme and come to tasks which are most convenient to get to.
